The Reko comes to us from the renewed Aricha washing station in Yirgacheffe Ethiopia, named for the Reko Mountain. The name, meaning “challenge,” was adopted by the founder of the washing station and its symbolic value, as a challenge to cultivate the best Yirgacheffe coffee. Like most Ethiopian washing stations, the lots that Aricha receive from each farmer are typically too small to process on their own, but their team works hard, processing each communities lots separately, to preserve the flavors of each community.
The Reko is popping with the sweet citrus of Strawberry lemonade, a wake-up call to the senses in the first sip. As the initial tingles settle, the gentle florality of jasmine soothes the palate as the richness of black tea comes in for a light smooth finish. This coffee is a great choice for anyone looking for an exciting new coffee to try and is familiar with lighter brighter coffees.
