This coffee comes to us from the Marimira Coffee Factory, located in the western district of Kenya’s Murang’s region. This is a separated lot of Peaberry coffee, which is a genetic mutation that occurs in about 5% of coffee cherries and results in a single seed inside the cherry instead of the typical two. Peaberries are separated from the rest of the coffee because this occurrence results in a delicious concentration of flavors in the single seed, which will typically be sweeter, brighter, and more nuanced than its standard counterparts. This heightened flavor profile makes it well worth the time it takes to meticulously separate out the Peaberry cherries.
The Marimira Peaberry has a delicious balance of juicy stone fruit and a bright, vibrant acidity. Rainier Cherry hits you up front with a concentrated sweetness, and evolves into a sharp but balanced Granny Smith apple. The finish has a Chardonnay-like buttery mouthfeel and malic acidity that lingers on the palate. This is an excellent offering for anyone who likes a vibrant, bright single-origin coffee.
