Since its founding in 2009, Hacienda La Papaya has become a 3-time consecutive Sprudge Notable Producer award winner and is recognized as the pioneer of coffee cultivation in Ecuador. Peña treats his production like a research center, partnering with Cuenca’s University to continue his study of coffee cultivation to improve irrigation systems, develop fertilization practices, and other quality-based projects.
